It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since the court room saga, People of the State of California vs. Orenthal James Simpson. Most of us know it as the O.J. case, tv’s first reality show. It was the ultimate collision of pop culture and courtroom drama, and two decades later there hasn’t been an event as big.
Media coverage began as soon as news broke that Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman had been brutally murdered outside her Brentwood condo. However, it was O.J.’s infamous car chase and dramatic arrest that sparked a full blown media frenzy.
Over 95 million Americans tuned into the live, real-time broadcast of O.J. Simpson fleeing authorities. It was one of those moments you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when it happened.

The case rocked America. Everyone had an opinion about it. To the country at large it became a conversation about American society and attitudes towards a variety of controversial issues. But for those close to the case the experience was quite different.
The Simpson and Kardashian families were very close. After O.J. surrendered himself to LAPD, Robert Kardashian joined O.J.’s defense team and sat by him throughout the trial. While Simpson was found not guilty in the end, trouble seemed to keep following him. In 2007 Simpson was sentenced to jail for armed robbery and kidnapping. He is expected to remain behind bars for another four years.
