If listening to Mariah Carey’s epic Christmas hit “All I Want for Christmas is You” doesn’t put you in the holiday spirit, you’re probably a direct descendent of Ebenezer Scrooge.
The song is perfection– upbeat, happy, expertly sung in Mariah’s 2,300 octave vocal range.
But almost 20 Christmases have passed since the song’s first release, and things aren’t quite as they used to be.
Mariah’s latest rendition was more than a little lackluster during her annual performance of the song at the Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Let’s just say that while dogs used to bark at her amazing whistle-tones, now they’re just barking at her voice in general.
To be fair, the performance wasn’t supposed to be live initially, so Mariah may have been underprepared, and the star is also going through her separation from Nick Cannon.
This video is the direct feed from her mic. The video below has all the bells and whistles that go with the song.
Even Mariah addressed the mediocre performance to her fans on social media.
Last night’s situation was beyond my control. I apologize to all that showed up, you know that I would never want to disappoint you.

Things sound a little better with backup singers and music to back her up.
