American Idol Contestants Putting A Hurting On The Judges’ Ears

American Idol Top 12 Recap

American Idol is one of the most watched shows in the world.  Contestants usually blow us away with their talent, but this year, something is different.  Either the judges did a horrible job picking out contestants or the contestants have found their selves in a rut.  No matter the reasoning behind poor performances, there is no denying that the judges aren’t being lenient in their feedback.

In fact, one of the favorites, Jessica Meuse, went home with some of the harshest words and criticism that the judges had to offer.  She was told that she was “sharp the whole time.”  These words came from new American Idol judge Harry Connick Jr., and he even continued to tell her that “when anybody hits a high note, people applaud…that didn’t happen tonight.  You were so off.”

American Idol contestant Alex Preston got criticized for poor song choice and was told a different song would have enabled him to showcase his voice better. Although Alex didn’t give his best performance of the season, he is still most definitely one the favorites and has a high likelihood of winning.

Emily Prize showed everyone that she is just as much Latino as Jennifer Lopez when she gave a decent performance of JLo’s song Let’s Get Loud.  Unfortunately, her rendition of the song was completely drowned out by the music.  And Harry was quick to tell Emily that she couldn’t live up to the performance that the song commanded.

One person who didn’t suck all that much was Malaya Watson, and it was a good thing being the performance she gave last week, which landed her in the bottom two.  Last night (Mar 5), however, Malaya gave a fabulous performance of Take Me to the King, and even got Keith Urban to give her a standing ovation at the end.

Tonight, Phillip Phillips is set to perform and we can’t wait.  It will be interesting to see who gets voted off, and even more interesting to see what the judges have to say.  This year’s judges are Harry, JLo and Keith Urban.  All three are getting along well, much different from last year’s season when Mariah Carey and Niki Minaj bickered the whole time causing many people to quit watching the show.  Hopefully this year, the judges will come together to bring us that old fashion American Idol that we love so much.

What happened to American Idol? Isn’t the show supposed to be about showcasing talent? Unfortunately, last night’s performance put a hurting on the judges’ ears.
