Nearly a decade later the hysterical gang of Anchorman is back! And this time Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), and Champ Kind (David Koechner) take on the world’s first 24 hour news channel, Global News Network. Burgundy comes up with a radical new idea to transform the news which catapults him to a new height of his career.
Will Ferrell discussed why he revisited Anchorman: “It just keeps coming up in pop culture. You’ll see the anchors on SportsCenter refer to the San Diego Chargers as the ‘San Di-ah-go Chargers.’ We were emailed a photo of a troop transport carrier in the middle of Baghdad with the stencil of Ron Burgundy’s face that said ‘Stay Classy Baghdad.’ And things like that…where references were coming up all the time. All of that had an accumulative effect to make us sit down and pause for a moment and go ‘that would be fun to revisit those characters again.'”
A newcomer to the cast but not new to the silver screen, Kristen Wiig commented on being part of such a talented ensemble: “I can’t imagine a more dreamboat cast. All of these guys are not only inspiring but they are just so nice and sweet…and I feel lucky because, of course, I watched the first movie and I feel like I got invited to their party.”
Paul Rudd gave his take on the characters and why he appreciates them: “I think the thing that I like about these characters is that they are all kind of buffoons in their own way. Champ is, I think, kind of full on psychopathic and deeply repressed homosexual. Brick is mentally retarded. I’m sure I [my character] has a drug problem and as skeevy and sexist as you can get. And Ron is just a clown. Yet there is still something about these guys that is innocent and they don’t judge each other, that’s where it works.”
Finally the wait is over and the sequel is here. Make sure to see Anchorman 2 this holiday season or new year.
