Zac Efron got the support of his BFF Ashley Tisdale at the Jan. 27 premiere of his latest flick That Awkward Moment. Tisdale arrived at the premiere in a stunning sequined black mini dress. However, she had her own awkward moment when she realized she had shown up way too early and was the only person there. The 28-year-old actress tweeted out a picture of the empty theater with the hashtage #thatawkward moment. Efron soon showed up with the rest of the cast and crew.
That Awkward Moment marks Efron’s first turn as the lead in a romantic comedy aimed squarely at adults. He also produced the film and said he was drawn to the script because he could see parallels in the story with his own dating life and with how he and his friends interact. He said the film has little “schmaltz or lovey stuff” and is instead about how guys in their mid-twenties approach relationships.
The film attempts to walk the fine line of appealing to both men and women. Some critics have labeled it a “bromantic comedy” for its blend of male humor with traditional romance. Co-star Michael B. Jordan said he liked that aspect of the film. He said most romantic comedies are told from the woman’s point-of-view, so he was drawn to a story told from the man’s perspective.
In That Awkward Moment, Efron and Jordan co-star along with Miles Teller as three best friends who vow to stay single after one Jordan’s character suffers an especially bad breakup. The vow goes awry when each of the men find themselves in relationships. The three friends then try to hide their new relationships to appear that they’re keeping with their vow.
Efron’s next film is the comedy Neighbors, in which he stars as the wild president of a fraternity that moves into the house next door to young parents Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. All hell breaks loose as the two men clash over the fraternity’s wild parties.
Jordan last starred in the critically acclaimed film Fruitvale Station. His next role is as Johnny Storm in the reboot of The Fantastic Four. Miles Teller has starred in movies like 21 & Over and Project X. That Awkward Moment also stars Imogen Poots, Mackenzie Davis, and Jessica Lucas and was written and directed by first-timer Tom Gormican.
