Maybe most Moslems peaceful, but until they recognize and destroy their growing jihadist cancer they must be held responsible.
Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch) January 10, 2015
It all started with Rupert Murdoch, 83-year-old Australian-American business and media magnate, posting the above tweet in reaction to last week’s attacks at Paris’ Charlie Hebdo magazine.
When you’re worth $14.9 billion, maybe you’re entitled enough to be flagrantly racist on social media. After all, the Charlie Hebdo attacks have reaffirmed the importance of freedom of expression. Still, while such tragic events may bring out the best in people such as the march of millions that took place this weekend they are also bound to bring out some of the worst.
No stranger to controversy, Murdoch posted the tweet just two days after 12 people were killed as revenge for publishing illustrations of the prophet Muhammad. In his tweet, he blames all of the world’s Muslims for the “jihadist cancer” growing within a faction of their religion.
Aziz Ansari, an American comedian from an Indian Tamil Muslim family, quickly took up against Murdoch’s hateful tweet, calling him out for his entirely nonsensical theory that would point the finger at even the most innocent of people.
Handling the situation with humor, yet demanding accountability, Ansari first responded to Murdoch, calling him ‘Rups’ and saying “can we get a step by step guide? How can my 60 year old parents in NC help destroy terrorist groups? Plz advise.”
The comedian then flipped the billionaire’s logic on its head and went on to call out Murdoch for all crimes committed at the hands of Christians, starting the hashtag #RupertsFault. Since then, he has been retweeting some of the hilarious responses the general Twitter populace has had for the viral hashtag, which gives Murdoch the responsibility for any Christian-committed crimes.
