On March 12, CBS announced that they will be renewing Chuck Lorre’s huge comedy success The Big Bang Theory taking it through to the 2016-17 season.
“Comedy is a big part of our schedule, and The Big Bang Theory is the biggest comedy force on television,” CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler said. “This multiyear deal further strengthens our network’s position for future seasons and marks another chapter in the great partnership CBS enjoys with Warner Bros. Television for delivering audiences the best in comedy. We’re proud to work with and showcase the incredible talents of [executive producers] Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and this amazing cast every week.”
Key cast members, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki are all seeking hefty salary increases that the trio, who reportedly earn $325,000 per episode are now seeking up to $1 million per half hour!
The Big Bang Theory averages about 19.8 million viewers per week and increasing year after year. It has earned multiple Emmy nominations for best comedy but yet to take home the trophy.
We can’t wait to see what the next three seasons will bring – another wedding maybe – but will it be Penny and Leonard or Amy and Sheldon?
