This Blind Pug Loves His Seeing-Eye Person
Mikey the pug happily toddled into the life of district judge Sabrina Johnson’s life in March of this year, and her courtroom has never been cuter.
The rescue pug came to his new home by way of the Michigan Humane Society, who found Mikey when he was suffering from a variety of medical issues including demodectic mange and severe glaucoma, causing extreme pain in his eyes. As a result, the MHS needed to remove Mikey’s eyes, rendering the pup entirely blind.
After Mikey recovered the MHS teamed up with Michigan Pug Rescue to find him a new happy home.
“It was love at first sight,” says judge Johnson. “I got him from rescue, and he really rescued me. He’s just the love of my life.”
Mikey makes regular appearances in the courtroom with his owner, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. Surprisingly, he even makes his way around just fine, having mapped out his home and the office cognitively.
“He does not bump into anything. He knows how to avoid furniture, the coffee table, the sofa. He knows where the door is, where his food is, where my bed is! Sometimes when we’re walking in the park he’ll get going and run into a tree.”
But Mikey doesn’t let it get him down, he takes it in stride and keeps on smilin’.
Justice is blind, and so is this cute pug!
