In a disturbing event on Wednesday, Jan. 6, two men approached a woman at a Southern California supermarket and offered to purchase her son.
The 34-year-old woman and her 2-year-old toddler were in the checkout line at the Baja Ranch Market in Covina, CA when the men began complimenting her and her son. They said both mother and child were beautiful, and that the baby had beautiful eyes.
They then asked if she would be willing to sell her son for $100.
When the woman denied them, they left her alone at first but approached her once again in the parking lot with the same offer. She locked her son in the car and said expected the worst. Luckily, the men drove away.
The disquieting event has local police reaching out to the community, asking for help in identifying the two men, who were caught on supermarket security footage.
This whole situation is very worrisome. Local officials fear that the men may be involved in a human trafficking scheme. But aside from being super creepy, is there anything illegal about offering to buy a baby? Some food for thought for your weekend.
