Over the holidays, comedian and actor Chris Rock filed for a divorce with his wife Malaak Compton-Rock. Rock’s representative released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. He said.
“Chris Rock has filed for divorce from his wife, Malaak. This is a personal matter, and Chris requests privacy as he and Malaak work through this process and focus on their family.
Their marriage together lasted nearly 20 years. Chris and Malaak got hitched back in November 1996, and over the course of 19 years they conceived two daughters, Lola Simone, 12, and Zahra Savannah, 10. Rock’s wife founded StyleWorks, which helps women go from welfare to the work force, as well as established The Angel Rock Project, which supports a number of charities.
According to People, Compton-Rock seemed just as calm and sensible as her husband. She said in a statement:
“After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways.”
Ironically, Rock’s latest films have all dealt with marriage difficulties. He directed and starred in Top Five, and also played a leading role in the 2007 romantic-comedy, I Think I Love My Wife.
