GLAAD Media Awards will be hosting its 25th ceremonies this year in Los Angeles and New York.  The scheduled dates for the ceremonies are April 12 in Los Angeles and May 3 in New York.  130 people were nominated by GLAAD this year to receive awards.  Among them are the much loved Poker Face singer, Lady Gaga, and an all-time favorite of ours, Elton John.

GLAAD is responsible for monitoring “how the LGBT community is portrayed in media.”  Earning a nomination or award obviously implies that GLAAD is very well pleased with the way a person portrayed his or her opinions and thoughts about the LGBT community to the public.

GLAAD president, Sarah Kate, has much to say about all of the nominees this year.  She claims that they “have created images and stories that continue to challenge misconceptions, shatter stereotypes, and change hearts and minds of millions all across the globe.”

Lady Gaga and Elton John are up for the same award, Outstanding Musical Artist award.  They will be going against Tegan and Sara the twins, the English electronic singing pair known as Goldfrapp, and also against Vampire Weekend.  Vampire Weekend just secured a Grammy this past Sunday for Best Alternative Music Album.

Also up for nomination this year at the ceremonies are the hit TV series “Modern Family” and the award-winning film “Dallas Buyers Club.”  The film “Philomena” will be competing against “Dallas Buyers Club” for Best Wide-Release Film.  In addition, they have more competition for this award, which includes going up against “Blue is the Warmest Color,” the film that won the Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or award, “The Moral Instrument: City of Bones,” and the hit drama film “Kill Your Darlings.”

In the race for the Best Comedy TV Series award are “Orange is the New Black,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Please Like Me,” and the highly adored “Modern Family.”  This will be the first year that “Please Like Me” and “Orange is the New Black” have received GLAAD nominations.

Moving on down the list of nominees we find “In the Flesh,” BBC’s supernatural series going against “Behind the Candelabra” for the Best TV Film award.  There are several ABC shows going up for Best Drama Series, all of which include “The Fosters,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Shameless,” and “Pretty Little Liars.”  They’re not the only ones in the running for this award either.  BBC’s “Orphan Black” has secured its own nomination as well.

Other awards to be given out at the 25th GLAAD Media Award ceremonies include those for best Overall Magazine Coverage, best Outstanding Limited-Release Film, best Reality Program, best Comic Book, and best Blog.
