A Tallahassee police officer is on paid leave after using a Taser on a 61-year-old woman Tuesday night (Sept. 30).

The incident occurred after police were called because of complaints that there was drug dealing going on in the neighborhood. After police showed up, three people were detained.

Inquiring about one of the suspects that was cuffed, Viola Young, 61, approached the police vehicle. Officers repeatedly asked Young to take a step back. Young refused and an officer told Young that she was under arrest for refusing to obey an officer and obstructing officers’ legal duties in the middle of a crime scene.

Young refused to be arrested and walked away from the officer. The policeman then took out his Taser and shot Young in the back and arrested her. Young was charged with “resisting an officer.”

The Police Chief is conducting an investigation on the matter to show the community that there was nothing done wrong on behalf of the officer.
