Behind the Scenes
Edinburgh Castle is one of the most famous tourist locations in the UK. It’s extremely well preserved and it hosts the Military Tattoo at the end of every summer.
The castle itself has actually been attacked more than 20 times in its long history. The castle is also home to a ginormous cannon called “Mons Meg.” The cannon is so big that it can fire cannonballs the size of a Tomahawk missile a few miles.
An event known as the “Black Dinner” took place in Edinburgh Castle back in 1440. A young earl of Douglas and his younger brother were taken from a banquet and brutally murdered. It directly inspired the crazy and infamous “Red Wedding” scene in Game of Thrones.
Dover Castle was a military key for England. It was defended fiercely during the civil war in 1215, and that’s a big reason why it’s still standing today.
During the Second World War, this was actually the base for all of the small ships that left to evacuate Dunkirk.
The castles in England are all pretty cool, and there are some pretty cool facts that not many people know about them. Check out some of the secrets!
