Or, better yet, saying “How are you?” when we really mean “Hello.” This one always throws off first-time visitors when they come visit the states. This is mainly because when we ask “How are you?” we’re not necessarily looking for a real answer. Most of the time it’s just a polite greeting. Why wouldn’t we just say hello?
Believe it or not, most countries don’t sport their flag as many places as we do. It doesn’t have to be the fourth of July, if you drive down any main street in a big city you’ll probably see dozens of American flags on buildings, cars, pins, shirts, everywhere! Some foreigners even say that the in-your-face patriotism is a turn-off.
This one is sort of weird, but the grape skittles we all love is actually known as “blackcurrant” flavor in the United Kingdom and Australia. If you mention that you love the great skittles the most, they might look at you like you’re crazy!
As Americans, we’re pretty normal in our eyes… but what does the rest of the world think?
