To the Rescue
Jack Buzzi looked out his window at his parents’ home in Jersey Shore when Hurricane Sandy hit back in 2012. When he looked out he was greeted by the horrifying sight of his neighbor Kathey’s house floating by on a surge of water from the Atlantic Ocean.
He immediately feared for his neighbor. Buzzi immediately threw on his raincoat and boots and waded through the waters to the remains of his neighbor’s home. He tried to yell at her, but she didn’t respond. “I thought she was dead,” he said.
Buzzi went back into his home and got on the phone with his neighbor’s brother. He was able to get in touch with Kathey, and she was apparently stuck sitting in the only room of the house that didn’t get crushed when the roof had caved in.
Once Jack got back into the house he found her standing on a single slab of wood that was once part of a doorway on the second floor of her house.
“I knew you would come”
Buzzi gave her a life jacket when he found her and safely escorted her out of her home. Buzzi even said that the first words Kathey said to him were “I knew you would come,” just like you would expect in a movie.
But Mister Buzzi wasn’t done yet…
