The new season of Game of Thrones is set to premiere on April 6th. In the meantime, HBO has released an action-packed trailer to get us excited. No simple teaser, the trailer is loaded with battle scenes, drama and teases at big plot developments coming up in the next ten episodes of the hit fantasy adventure series.

For a show as big as Game of Thrones, the premium cable channel could easily have gotten away with a simple teaser with the logo and a little bit of music from the series, maybe a sound bite or two, but instead we get…

  • Tyrion looking as cool as ever. Peter Dinklage may be one of the only dwarf actors ever to achieve mainstream sex symbol status, and the stylish, funny, charming arrogance of Tyrion Lannister is a big part of why many of us tune in to the series.
  • Plenty of epic battles. When we saw Tyrion Lannister get knocked out so that the producers of the first season of the show wouldn’t have to film the battle scene he was taking part in, the assumption was that later seasons would deliver on action once GoT was a hit and received a considerable budget, and it looks like the fourth season is no exception.
  • As much sex as ever. Although they can only tease at it in the trailer, it looks like nudity is still a mainstay of the series.
  • Familiar faces. Although the series arc is beginning to crescendo, the show is still finding time for the loose ends, from Jon Snow’s girlfriend Ygritte to Theon Greyjoy, still locked up in a torture chamber last we saw him.

If you want to read the books with minimal spoilers, you don’t have long before the new season starts and everyone begins talking about it, so catch up quick. It’s probably safe to say that fans can’t wait to see Joffrey get his, but if you haven’t read the books, then there’s no telling when or even if we can expect that to happen.
