You may not be feeling the springtime weather quite yet, but mother nature is still working her magic.

Meet Yi Bao and Jin Xin – the first giant pandas to mate naturally at the Bifengxia Panda Base in Ya’an City this spring. Vice-director Luo Bo says that it’s very difficult to get pandas to make babies naturally, but the base has had good luck this year. Another pair of pandas successfully copulated late last year as well.

Interestingly, female pandas are only fertile for a window of up to 36 hours each spring, so creating an opportune environment in which these animals can produce offspring naturally is very difficult.

Congratulations goes out to the furry couple!

Score one point for the endangered species! Did you know that female pandas are only fertile for up to 36 hours in the spring every year?
