Joaquin Phoenix in Her

With awards season in full swing, The Guardian looks at one movie that has a chance of bagging an Oscar. Her is a movie by Spike Jonze that has a good chance of winning an award at the Oscars. The movie was produced in 2013 and Spike Jonze is its director. The cast includes Scarlett Johannson, who provides the voice for the computer system named Samantha. Joaquin Phoenix is the office worker who falls in love with the computer system. The movie has joined American Hustle as one of the unexpected early frontrunners in the awards race after being named the best film of the year by the National Board of Review. The award for the best director went to Spike Jonze.

In the movie, Scarlett Johansson relies on her voice to make audiences believe that Joaquin Phoenix can fall in love with a computer system. She does not even have the luxury of an avatar. However, things seem to be going against her because Inside Movies reveals that the Golden Globes have already decided that her performance is not eligible for an award, even though the movie was nominated for the best picture. Johansson could have been included in the nominations for best supporting actress, but she did not make the cut. However, she has a real chance of being recognized at the Oscars.

Not surprisingly, Joaquin Phoenix was not amused by this turn of events. In fact, the actor believes that the Oscars are total BS and he does not want to be part of the charade, where people are pitted against each other. This is not the first time that the actor has been under consideration for an Academy Award. The first time was when he was nominated for the supporting actor category for his role in Gladiator, which was released in 2000. Phoenix was also a finalist in the best actor category for the movie Walk the Line.

Her the Movie

According to Huffington Post, Scarlett Johansson’s role in Her might make history at the Oscars. Even though she does not appear on screen, she gives such a remarkable performance that she could end up making a historic Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The movie received great reviews from critics, with most of them singling out Johansson for her exceptional role as the voice of the computer system in the movie. With only her soft sultry voice, Johannson managed to create a complex and full-bodied character, proving she isn’t’ just a pretty face.

Even though her role is strictly voice only, Scarlett Johansson has already scooped the best actress gong at the recent Rome film festival. She is still eligible for a nomination at the Academy Awards. Should Scarlett Johannson win an Oscar for the role of supporting actress in Her, she will make history as the first person to do so without appearing on screen.
