A Photo of a Homeless Boy Forced to do his Homework on the Pavement by McDonald’s in the Philippines Goes Viral
Joyce Torrefranca, a medical student in Manilla, was walking home like she does every night, when she saw something extraordinary: a boy kneeling on the pavement, doing his homework on a bench with only the light coming from a nearby McDonald’s to see by.
The boy’s name is Daniel Cabrera. Daniel lost his father when he was younger, and he and his mother have been left homeless since their house burned down. They are often seen begging in the downtown area where the photo was taken. This homeless boy from the Philippines has entered the international spotlight since Torrefranca shared a photo she took of him on her Facebook page on June 23.
Since then, the photo has been shared over 6,000 times. After the photo went viral, Torrefranca told Rappler, “As a steed, it gave me an inspiration to work harder … You really don’t need much, you just have to be determined and focused on the things that you want to achieve.” The photo has sparked a dialogue about Daniel’s inspiring work ethic and all of the things that we take for granted in our own daily lives.
