A-List celebrities came out for the 17th Annual Hollywood Film Awards. The red carpet was filled with stars such as Julia Roberts, Robert Downey Jr., Sandra Bullock, Kanye West, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jane Fonda, and many more. The Hollywood Film Awards honor excellence in the art of filmmaking. The awards are not given to nominees, but to honorees. This is a key feature that differentiates the awards program from others, the recipients are not competing. The honorees are selected for their body of work and/or a film that is released during the calendar year.

Julia Roberts, who received the Hollywood Supporting Actress Award, commented on her appreciation for smaller roles saying, “It’s fun for me. Supporting has more of the jewel bits in it to really make sense of [the character and story]…it’s the grittier moments.” As Roberts graciously accepted the award, she explained that it was her husband who inspired her to take the part, and was so happy she did.

Comically accepting the Hollywood Actress Award, Sandra Bullock was thankful for the recognition saying, “The Hollywood I know has allowed me opportunity after opportunity to keep trying, to keep doing new things and [has] not sent me out to pasture. I don’t want to go to the pasture. It’s cold, I’m allergic to grass, and the cows are mean. So I’m grateful that I’m still here.”

The Hollywood Breakout Director Award was given to Steve McQueen. McQueen spoke about his experience since with 12 Years a Slave and being honored, “Well it’s been humbling, really…I’ve been allowed to work I’ve been allowed to make films. I’ve just been very humbled by it. All I do is try, try my best and I’ve been very fortunate.”

Jane Fonda presented the Hollywood Director Award to Lee Daniels. Having worked with Daniels she described her experience with him, “He shakes you down, will not accept anything less than your absolute gut, your should truth for what you’re doing. He’s an amazing director!”

The ceremony was colorful and lively the whole way through. PressRoomVIP looks forward to next year’s installment.
