If you haven’t heard, Justin Bieber is in the process of revamping his entire public image. But is his plan working, or does he need to step up his game?

This week on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Bieber showed up in what looked like a very short dress and made a heartfelt admission regarding his anxieties involved in making public appearances (in what seemed like an attempt to score some sympathy points.) Then, in a follow up to his words with Ellen, Bieber also posted a very interesting video on his Facebook.

The emotional “confessional” of sorts shows a creepy silhouette of the CK model speaking directly to his fans. First Biebs again addresses how nervous he was to appear on Ellen, and how worried he is about appearing arrogant to the public in general, “or basically how [he’s] been acting the past year, year and a half.”

As he approaches his 21st birthday, coming up next month, Bieber maintains that he’d like to take more responsibility for his actions. “I really want people to know how much I care, how much I care about people,” he admits. Though it’s important to make this distinction: while it’s true that at some points we’ve questioned how much Bieber really cares about people, we have never thought that he didn’t care about what people thought about him.

“I’m not that person to say ‘I don’t give a f*ck. You know, I’m not that kid. I’m a person who genuinely cares,” he confirms.

While Bieber still faces a lot of difficulty trying to get America to take him seriously, this latest piece to the puzzle might be a good fit. But it’s time that Bieber takes these words and molds them into action.

With Bieber’s big roast on the horizon, and an impending new album in the slips, will these be the final cathartic moments to jet-propel our troubled, fuzzy ‘stached teen into early adulthood? Can he do it?

Check out his surprise appearance on Ellen’s birthday below.
