Kristen Stewart Doesn’t Need to Come Out of the Closet
In an era when sexual fluidity has become far more represented in Hollywood and when less stars are intimidated by the concept of ‘coming out of the closet,’ the youngest generation of female celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Cara Delevingne and Kristen Stewart are content to openly live the sexual lives that they want to, date who they want to, and exude the gender they want to. And their live-and-let-live mentality begs the question: Is coming out of the closet even required anymore for an A-list celebrity?
In a recent interview with Nylon magazine, Kristen Stewart addressed the statement that her mother made recently to the Sunday Mirror that she was officially in a relationship with Alicia Cargile, a punky visual effects producer, who some believed to be Stewart’s assistant – au contraire!
“I’ve met Kristen’s new girlfriend, I like her,” and “I feel like people need to be free to love whoever they want. I accept my daughter loves women and men.” (Unlike Cara Delevingne’s mother, she does not see this as a phase.)
Of course after her high-profile romance with Twilight costar Robert Pattinson, the press is ever-eager to jump on this salacious treat, presenting the public with photo after photo, exhibits of her lesbianic tendencies.
So did she officially pronounce her bisexuality in the Nylon interview?
No. Does she need to? No.
“Google me, I’m not hiding,” she challenges.
“If you feel like you really want to define yourself, and you have the ability to articulate those parameters and that in itself defines you, then do it. But I am an actress, man. I live in the fucking ambiguity of this life and I love it. I don’t feel like it would be true for me to be like, ‘I’m coming out!’ No, I do a job. Until I decide that I’m starting a foundation or that I have some perspective or opinion that other people should be receiving…I don’t. I’m just a kid making movies.”
But that’s not all.
