Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett made a lavish entrance this morning, pulling up to The Today Show in a classic Rolls Royce to announce that their highly anticipated jazz duet album Cheek to Cheek will be available for fans Sept. 23.
Along with the exciting news, the adorable duo released the first single/video off the album, Cole Porter’s Anything Goes.
With a 60 year difference in age, the unlikely duo has developed a very close friendship since they first met at an event benefiting the Robin Hood Foundation a few years back. Gaga performed a set of her pop hits along with a rendition of the classic standard Orange Colored Sky. After the performance Bennett, who was completely blown away by her voice, asked if she would be interested in recording a Jazz record with him to which she responded..of course! The crooners went on to record their iconic version of The Lady is a Tramp for Tony’s 2011 platinum selling album Duets II and soon after that announced that they would be going into the studio to record an LP together. In case you missed it here is the video for their glorious version of The Lady is a Tramp.
If recording an entire an album of duets together wasn’t a grand enough symbol of the special love they have for each other Gaga’s newest tattoo sure is! Gaga recently asked Mr. Bennett, who happens to be an accomplished visual artist as well, if he would sketch a trumpet for her. He drew her Miles Davis’ famous trumpet and the next day she had it tattooed on the inside of her right bicep. If that’s not love, what is?
Fans can expect other American songbook selections on Cheek to Cheek such as Sophisticated Lady, It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing), and the epic Lush Life.
Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett promised it and here it is folks! On Sept. 23, Cheek To Cheek, their full length album of jazz duets will be available for your patient ears. Click here to check out the video for their version of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes!
