Her sensational set began with a very roast-y and sultry Aura, with Gaga rotating on a barbecue spit. Over the course of an hour, the Lady of all Little Monsters played mostly from ARTPOP, with a heart pounding piano ballad of Dope, an incendiary performance of MANiCURE, and a sick collaboration with Twista who dropped in for his portion of Jewels N’ Drugs. Gaga did deviate a bit and performed a variation of Bad Romance which played to the culture of the venue.
The centerpiece of the evening was the musical and artistic performance of Swine. For Swine Gaga introduced the mysterious Millie Brown who then downed a bottle of bright green liquid and forcefully vomited on Gaga leaving everyone watching amazed and shocked. This visual metaphor left us gagging for more Gaga!
And more Gaga is what we got! The Monster for Life gave extraordinary renditions of Gypsy, which she dedicated to the victims or the car crash a few nights prior, and Applause.
The mega-pop star’s provocative show at SXSW perfectly showcased her evolution as an artist. Lately Gaga has received mixed reviews for her new album ARTPOP, some of which have been hyperbolically negative. Last night’s performance proved that this artist can endure and persevere through what the music and entertainment industry throws at today’s talent. Gaga truly loves music and her fans. She is a true ARTIST.
The show, sponsored by Doritos, will benefit Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.
Thank you Lady Gaga for giving us all of you last night! Never sell out, only sell in.
In her typical, unforgettable fashion, Lady Gaga gave her entire being performing last night at South by Southwest. It was Gaga’s first time to perform at the wildly popular Austin music festival.
