Canine 9/11 Hero Receives a Special Honor

This is Bretagne. Bretagne is the last search and rescue dog that worked at Ground Zero known to be alive today on the 14th anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001.

Denise Corliss is Bretagne’s human, and as a pair, the two belonged to the Texas Ts Force 1, a group of 100 other dogs that helped locate and rescue victims trapped in the rubble of the World Trade Center on September 11. As you can imagine, the two have been lifelong friends since then.

When the folks at Dog’s Best Day learned that Bretagne was about to be celebrating her 16th birthday, they knew that they had to do something special for her and Denise. They teamed up with a whole bunch of businesses in New York City to bring the two back to the place where they made their heroic act 14 years ago to enjoy a day of fun and remembrance.

Watch Bretagne and Denise’s amazing story below — we dare you not to cry. SHARE the story of this canine hero with your animal-loving friends.
