President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle cut their trip in India short to make a stop in Saudi Arabia Tuesday (Jan. 27) to pay their respects to the late Saudi King Abdullah.

But what was supposed to be a trip of respect turned quickly into what many are calling a trip of disrespect.

In Saudi Arabia, it is a custom that women wear headscarfs, veils or niqabs. And when Michelle Obama stepped out of Air Force One, her face (or hair) was not covered up at all.

However, this is not the first time that a woman of prominence has met with leaders in Saudi Arabia without a headscarf. Why is that?

Exceptions are made for foreigners.

Nonetheless, some people are outraged and have been taking to social media to lash out at the First Lady. Many people are wondering why Mrs. Obama didn’t wear a headscarf in Saudi Arabia when she wore one not too long ago in Indonesia.

Was Mrs. Obama making a case for women’s rights? Was she too lazy to put a headscarf on? Or did she just not feel like she had to? What do you think?
