‘Mortal Kombat’ Actor Darren Shahlavi Passes Away

A martial artist since he was 7 years old, Darren Shahlavi will no longer be around to produce badass fighting scenes.

Shahlavi died at the age 42 in his sleep on January 14, according to his agent, although the cause of death was not revealed. Shahlavi is best known for his appearance in Mortal Kombat: Legacy,an American web series, and Arrow, a popular show on The CW Television Network.

Shahlavi just recently finished shooting on Pound of Flesh with martial artist and friend Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Shahlavi’s acting career started when he was a stuntman in kung fu films after director Yuen Woo Ping discovered his talents. Shahlavi played the villain in the kung fu filmTai Chi Chuan. Hollywood adopted Shahlavi as a supporting actor for boxing roles. He was featured with Eddie Murphy inI Spy and with Robin Williams inThe Final Cut. Shahlavi’s memory lives on through his star role as Kano in Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

His legacy will also live on through his sister, actress Lis Shahlavi.
