Reality star Diem Brown has died after a long battle against cancer this Friday (Nov. 14), at the young age of 32.

Brown rose to fame on MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge, and built up her celebrity status over the course of several installments of the series. During the filming of her eighth season Diem collapsed during filming, and it was later revealed that the reality star was diagnosed with stomach and colon cancer–which later spread to her liver and lymph nodes.

Brown has been recording her fight against cancer with PEOPLE.com in a blog format, sharing her inspirational story, and inspiring others who might be struggling with related illnesses.

Diem believed in optimism and fighting for her future. Just last month she told People:

“It’s my personal perspective that you live as hard and as vigorously as you can. My goals are something I believe in, because I believe I’m going to make it… I’m going to have a family and get married and the whole American, 2½ kids, white-picket fence dream.”

As Brown’s condition worsened this week, friends and family gathered around her hospital bedside in New York City.

“I want people to know that the fight is worth it,” Diem said only last month, “And that’s something that’s so important for me.”

Rest in peace Diem. We wish your friends and family strength through this difficult time.
