Julia Roberts August Osage Premiere

The New York premiere of August: Osage County at the Ziegfeld Theater brought out the star-studded cast including Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Juliette Lewis, Chris Cooper, Margo Martindale, and Abigail Breslin.

The highly anticipated dark comedy is based on the Pulitzer-prize winning play written by Tracy Letts. Julia Roberts spoke about the adaptation from play to film, “There’s a lot of really funny stuff in the play. We’ve tried to put as much as we can into the movie, and maybe find a few other ways to make itch o visually funny, since it is a movie and we can set things up in that way. It’s interesting, it’s been pretty fascinating.”

Roberts continued to express her enthusiasm for the play saying, “When I saw this play it was like nothing I had ever seen before. Tracy Letts has done something, I think, absolutely extraordinary. To be able to pay tribute to that and make it a movie and try to make it so very true to what it was onstage is exciting.”

Leading the a-list ensemble is the amazing Meryl Streep. Dermot Mulroney talked about what it was like working with such an icon, “I don’t know how to begin to describe what Meryl does. So many times you work so hard, and part of your job is to then make sure you look like you didn’t work very hard, because you’re trying to be as natural as possible as an actor. I know for a fact Meryl works really hard. She prepares like no one I’ve ever seen, but you can’t see it. It’s invisible. Of the many lessons I learned just watching her, that one really sparked my curiosity the most.” Mulroney continued with the accolades saying, “The whole experience is elevated by her presence.”

Just last week the cast was nominated for the SAG Awards’ Best Ensemble. There is a lot of buzz around this film, make sure to see it when it is released nationwide December 25th.
