Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in His Manhattan Apartment

Philip Seymour Hoffman has died at the age of 46.

The celebrated American actor and director was found in his Manhattan apartment in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan this morning, according to the NYPD.

The New York Times reported that Hoffman was found in his West Village apartment around 11:30 a.m. by a friend who had become concerned at not being able to reach Hoffman.

Investigators at the scene found a syringe in his arm and an envelope containing what is believed to be heroin.

Hoffman has had a history of drug abuse and addiction, and had received treatment for it. After being clean for nearly 23 years, Hoffman had spoken about “falling off the wagon” in interviews in the last year.

Best known for his lead role in Capote, Hoffman won both a Golden Globe Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture and Best Actor Academy Award.
