Sean Penn's Help Haiti Home Gala

The night prior to the Golden Globes Hollywood’s A-listers showed up to support Sean Penn & Friends Help Haiti Home Gala. What a night it was! U2 put on a surprise performance and Coldplay’s Chris Martin bid $1.4 million on Banksy’s Balloon for Haiti. The evening presented by Giorgio Armani raised $6 million.

“We still have 150,000 people that still live under tents out of 1.8 million originally,” said Penn. He continued “we can get those people in homes…by next year. And we can be talking about something other than an earthquake.”

Anderson Cooper, who has been very familiar with Haiti since its devastating earthquake in 2010, spoke about his experience with Sean Penn and Haiti. “When first Sean showed up in Port-au-Prince just days after the earthquake I didn’t really know him, I didn’t really know what he was up to. He started to manage the largest camp in Port-au-Prince for displaced people. He did a great job of managing it and now it is the next phase of getting people back home to help the rebuild their lives. I so admire all the work they are doing.”

Emma Thompson gave an award to the UN ambassador to Haiti, Pamela White who she says “is a remarkable woman.” Thompson also gave praise to Sean Penn, “Sean’s outfit is the real thing. I am very proud to come and support it.”
