As last week’s story unravels, revealing the details of June Shannon’s relationship with convicted child molester Mark McDaniel, there’s talk that the matriarch of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo could potentially lose custody over her own children.

Last Friday (Oct. 24) the TLC tentpole program was canceled after TMZ exposed that June had been dating McDaniel, who was released from prison in March after serving a 10-year sentence for forcing oral sex on an 8-year-old. Since then, June’s eldest daughter Anna Cardwell has stepped forward as one of McDaniel’s past victims–and while she’s confused about the details of her mother’s renewed relationship with McDaniel, told the press, “I’m hurt,” and “I think me and Mama’s relationship may well be over.” She has also told People that she doesn’t plan on allowing her own two-year-old daughter to see June until she confirms that McDaniel is no longer around. “I would not let [Mama] see Kaitlyn unless Mark is out of the picture … I don’t want him nowhere near my child.”

People also reports that given the severity of the situation and laws governing the state of Georgia, it’s possible that children’s services could be looking into the situation. Susan Boatwright of Georgia’s Division of Family and Child Services told the mag,

“From our point of view, when there are young children who are not able to protect themselves that are in daily contact or living with a sex offender, someone would go out and assess the situation and decide whether the children can stay there or not. If we thought a child was in harm’s way in any way, shape or form, we would develop a safety plan and make sure the children are not around an offender.”

This means that Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson–star of the show–as well as her sisters Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon and Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon, all minors, could potentially be removed from June’s primary care. However, due to privacy disclosure laws, it’s difficult to say whether or not an investigation is actually underway.

All we can hope for at this point is that the kids are being well cared for, and are minimally exposed to all of the negative press. TLC mirrored the sentiment last week when the story broke: “Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority.  TLC is faithfully committed to the children’s ongoing comfort and well-being.”

As the scandal unravels, it’s possible that June ‘Mama’ Shannon might lose her children in a child services investigation. Find out more…
