Although the 75-year-old actor is now retired, he just can’t resist staying active and giving back to his fans. While McKellen was patiently awaiting to see himself in the final installment of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Sir Ian McKellen demonstrated the word “resist” to Cookie Monster on Sesame Street.

McKellen explains the word “resist” as “to control yourself and stop yourself from doing something you really want to do,” though Cookie Monster has a hard time grasping the concept.

McKellen first uses a gold ring as an example for all his Hobbit fans watching, before moving to a cookie as a clear example for Cookie Monster. According to Tech Times, Sesame Street has “been one of the most influential shows on television for decades, and being able to teach kids alongside Cookie Monster is almost as big an honor as being knighted.”
