Zayn Malik leaving One Direction isn’t the first time the fifth member of a British supergroup has just walked out on the limelight. If memory serves, reactions were just as dramatic – though far less social media oriented – when Geri Holliwell, aka “Ginger Spice,” decided to slam it to the left all the way offstage in 1998.
It’s been almost 20 years since the “second wave of the British invasion” blew up and the girls released their first mega-hit, “Wannabe,” and now Emma Bunton has hinted that the girls might do another go around together says the Daily Star.
“I was with Geri and Mel B just recently,” says 39-year-old Baby Spice. “We love each other and we love performing together. It’s just about the timing right because we all have our own careers now and we have families, it’s just about getting five schedules together and that’s all it is.” Why can’t we just party like the old days?
Turns out it takes a lot more effort to get the group together these days than just Alan Cumming and a film contract.
Emma also let us know that there’s a buried treasure of unreleased tracks that are just sitting around somewhere. “There’s lots. We recorded lots and lots and lots of songs.” So where are these gummy candy-pop arias that we never got to chew on? A few of them leaked online earlier this year, which Emma apparently wasn’t able to discuss, but chances are they’re hidden away in one of Simon Fuller’s mansions.
In any case, we’ll keep our fingers crossed and hopefully they’ll be back on the stage before you can say zig-a-zig-ah. But until then…
