NBC announced on Tuesday night (Feb. 10) that Brian Williams, who has been with the network since 1993, will be suspended for six months without pay. After it was revealed that Williams had largely embellished a story about his helicopter being shot down in the Iraqi desert in 2003, the Nightly News anchor of over ten years said that he would step down for “several days.” Following this initial recantation, however, more of William’s stories have fallen under scrutiny, leading the president of NBC News, Deborah Turness, to say,
This was wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian’s position.
But now that William’s account from Iraq – which changed from him being in a helicopter that was shot down by a rocket-propelled grenade to an ultimate on-air apology this week stating that he was in a helicopter behind the one that was hit – has been totally discredited, and now that his reports from New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina are being questioned, how much can we trust Brian Williams?
Over the past week, hilarious reactions from social media have showed us what other major events as reported by Williams are now entirely questionable. We’ve compiled a few of them here for you:
I’m shocked. Back when Brian Williams and I killed Osama Bin Laden, he seemed like an honest guy.
