‘Slingshot’ Ride Breaks Mid-Flight

As if you needed another reason to be terrified of carnivals and theme parks (roller coasters and clowns are scary enough without trying to kill you), here’s a video that will really make your knuckles sweat.

A 24-year-old woman was hospitalized with a broken leg after a theme park ride went terribly wrong at France’s Luna Park in Cap d’Agde.

The victim and another rider — who fortunately walked away unscathed — climbed into a giant metal ball that’s (purposely) sent flying into the air like a massive slingshot. After the ball was slung into the air, the physical force on its way back down to Earth became so great that the bungee cable snapped on one side, sending the ball violently careening into one of the ride’s support towers. Terrifying.

The couple was stranded in their metal cage-of-death for over an hour before park officials were able to get them down from ride.

Although this is the first time the park has reported any accident of the sort, Public Security officers and a forensic expert are investigating the situation.

So next time you go to a theme park, maybe just check out the kiddie cars or sit down and have a nice funnel cake instead.
