In a world of superstars with equally huge personalities, British singer Sam Smith is uniquely soft-spoken.

Considering this 22-year-old Brit has one of the best voices and widest ranges in the industry today, it might seem surprising that he can still maintain his iconic humility since shooting to stardom with his breakthrough hit “Latch” in 2012. But does his charming schoolboy smile make up for his lack of personality?

Most of today’s biggest stars are tremendous triple threats with vocals, dancing, and dramatic skills that wow us in each performance. Aside from his very large voice, however, Sam has practically no stage presence. While he may rely on his polite British demeanor to win over audiences and talk show hosts, critics have called for Smith to take more risks with his act.

We love you Sam, but what makes you so awkward?
