There comes a time in every artist’s career when he or she must decide to call it quits. Over the years, we’ve seen some musicians go out with a bang, some fade into anonymity, and others resurrect their careers through successful comebacks. Still, like that one constant in life, everything must come to an end.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin announced in a BBC Radio interview on Thursday (Dec. 4) that the band would have to make that decision once they finish their current project, studio album #7 entitled A Head Full of Dreams. That’s right, this album may be Coldplay’s last. But how did he phrase this sad announcement?

We’re right in the middle of [A Head Full of Dreams…] It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something like that. Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something.

Okay, so he didn’t necessarily say that Coldplay is breaking up after the next album and tour are done. Still, this is the end of something. Will that mean solo careers for the 4 members of the band, which formed in 1996? Or will Coldplay shy away from the production spotlight, choosing instead to tour and just take some time off to vivir their vidas? One thing is for sure: only time will tell what’s in store for Coldplay.
