It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And you know what that means: DJ Earworm’s annual “United State of Pop” mashup.
DJ Earworm (actually named Jordan Roseman) started this meticulous process back in 2007, and his yearly mashup has gained huge followings since then. In order to create his annual compilation, Roseman goes through the top 25 pop hits of the year and finds which songs are best able to blend and mix together. Year after year, he has turned out great tunes and beats that reflect the most recognizable and defining songs of our pop music culture.
This year’s mashup, titled “United State of Pop 2014 (Do What You Wanna Do)” features hits like Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” and even Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go.” Other artists included are Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Sam Smith, MAGIC!, Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo, and many more.
Personally, we think this year’s mashup falls a bit short of DJ Earworm’s previous work. The result sounds more choppy and disconnected than usual. Still, it’s a nice way to recap all the big hits from the year. Decide for yourself:
