If you’re an American and you’re not familiar with budding star Eddie Redmayne, it’s high time that you got in the loop.
The 32-year-old started his career on the stage at Shakespeare’s Globe – how perfectly English – and went on to gain numerous awards for his dramatic skill, including a 2010 Olivier Award and Tony Award for his performance in John Logan’s Red. Although he appeared in several films from 2006 onward, Redmayne landed his first major role in 2011’s My Week With Marilyn, which truly put him on the map in Hollywood.
Major audiences will recognize the freckled actor from his charming if toad-like musical performance as Marius Pontmercy in 2012’s Les Misérables, where he starred alongside the likes of Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, and Hugh Jackman. More recently, Redmayne tackled his most dramatic role to date portraying Stephen Hawking in 2014’s The Theory of Everything. Although only half of the movie required Eddie to speak, it was a physically and emotionally demanding role that Redmayne delivered with integrity and great heart. We will surely be seeing more of Eddie Redmayne in film and theater.
But if the silver screen isn’t where Eddie is meant to end up, he’ll always have the catwalk as a Plan B. British GQ released its annual “Best-Dressed Men in Britain” list, and Redmayne landed the #1 spot.
It’s no surprise that Eddie received the honor, being the perfect English gentleman and former model himself. The charming ginger modeled for Burberry in 2008 and 2012, and he was featured on Vanity Fair‘s International Best Dressed List in 2012.
According to H&M’s head of design for mensware, Andreas Löwenstam,
This charismatic young actor manages to make any wardrobe staple look contemporary and stylish. Eddie’s ability to get his outfits so right with a mix of modern casualwear and a tailored classic makes him a true inspiration within men’s fashion.
And he’s right! Redmayne is often seen rocking a tux, but he isn’t afraid to throw on a velvet jacket (or trousers), or to mix it up with a cardigan and Oxford – always in a slim fit. Just check out his bold but classic look from the UK premiere of The Theory of Everything:
Boy knows how to dress! Redmayne jumped up from #27 on last year’s list, and we’re all for it.
Other Brits honored for their haberdashery are Benedict Cumberbatch (#2), Jamie Dornan a.k.a. the upcoming Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie (#3), David Beckham (#46) and son Romeo (#25), and even His Royal Highness Prince George in the #49 spot. That baby is making moves!
