Dating or Not? Emma Watson Responds to Prince Harry Rumors

Rumors all but broke the internet last week when an Australian news site reported that Harry Potter actress Emma Watson was dating Prince Harry, fourth (soon to be fifth) in line to the throne of England.

Watson (24), who rose to international stardom after starring as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies (2001–2011), is one of the world’s most eligible bachelorettes at the moment, ever since her split with Oxford University rugby player Matthew Janney last fall. A Brown University grad herself, Emma was appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in 2014 and now helps run the HeForShe campaign for gender equality.

Prince Harry (30), son of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, has grown to be a captain in the British Army as well as a fairly notorious playboy.

In response to the rumors, Watson released the above tweet, kindly reminding the world to “remember that little talk we had about not believing everything written in the media” – AKA most people took that as her dismissing the rumor. But did she? We don’t see the word ‘no’ or ‘false’ anywhere in there!

But more importantly, the actress, who is set to play Belle in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaption of Beauty and the Beast, later tweeted the following reminder about being a princess both on and off the screen.

In the true fashion of her HeForShe campaign, Emma reminded her twitter followers that “marrying a Prince [is] not a prerequisite for being a Princess.” To accompany her important and pleasantly feminist message, she shared a clip from 1995’s A Little Princess in which the main character professes that all women are princesses regardless of age, clothes, or background.

The rumored couple might be too good to be true, but Watson is certainly right in saying that she doesn’t need a prince to make her any more splendid.

Emma Watson denied the rumors that she is dating Prince Harry… or did she? Read her ambiguous tweet here!
