Look Back and Honor Those Stars Who We’ve Lost to AIDS
Since its discovery almost 35 years ago, AIDS has caused over an estimated 36 million deaths worldwide.
The United States has recently entered a new era in its fight with the deadly virus, thanks to growing knowledge on potential cures and advents like the Truvada pill – a form of prevention now becoming widely employed by the gay populations of major US cities. But the road to stabilizing the rate of infection has been long, and like any disease, HIV/AIDS does not discriminate. As a result, some of our nation’s biggest names have been taken down by the virus in the past.
With celebrities like Freddie Mercury, Rock Hudson and Arthur Ashe on the list of those we remember, you might be shocked by how many other household legends were affected by the AIDS outbreak. Every person on this list has AIDS as a cause of death somewhere in their public records, and as we continue to hope for a better future in our defense against the virus, we should always look back and thank those who gave their lives to steer us in the right direction today.

I just had no idea.
