Don't get dysentery and die!
Between 1840 and 1860, more than 400,000 pioneers traveled the Oregon Trail braving everything from disease outbreaks and wagon accidents to arid deserts and rushing river crossings, all in hopes of finding a better life in the wild frontiers of the West. The 2,000 mile journey from Missouri to Oregon and Northern California was brutal, but still captures the minds of Americans today as it embodies the adventurous spirit of the United States.
