This was one epic journey!

In 1804, President Thomas Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and their Corps of Discovery on a mission to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase and what lay to its west. What ensued was a two-and-a-half-year journey, taking them some 8,000 miles from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean and back, mostly by boat and on horseback. Lewis and Clark made contact with dozens of Indian tribes, faced death numerous times and became the first U.S. citizens to lay eyes on the wonders of the previously unexplored West.
