We’ve just celebrated the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. because he was a key figure in making real change for the African American people of America during a time of segregation and hate. But there were many black men and women through American history that made great strides in this fight. Beginning on August 21, 1831 in Southampton County, Virginia, slave and educated minister Nat Turner led a rebellion that would be the bloodiest slave revolt in U.S. history. The Rebellion changed many things in the South and underscored the harsh realities of slavery.
