Before she was introduced to the world as Marilyn Monroe, she was just Norma Jeane Mortenson. In 1946, after separating from her husband, James Dougherty, she had dreams of becoming an actress.
The 20-year-old met lover and photographer, André de Dienes, and he suggested the two travel to capture photos Marilyn in different natural sceneries. After traveling to Malibu Beach for a shoot, in between takes, he decided to take a series of photos, capturing her various facial expressions.
He took shots of the blonde beauty in her au-naturel state, showing emotions of happiness, doubt, peace of mind, and even death.
