Icon Lauren Bacall suffered from a massive stroke and passed away on August 12, 2014 in New York at the age of 89. The beloved star is considered to be one of the most beautiful faces to ever grace the silver screen and had an expansive career filled with huge flim classics such as Key Largo, Designing Women, How To Marry A Millionaire, and The Mirror Has Two Faces.
Bacall also had a tremendous stage career making her Broadway debut at the age of 18 in the play Johnny 2 x 4. Soon after that she was summoned to Hollywood to further her career but after becoming a big star went back to Broadway to star in productions of Goodbye Charlie, Cactus Flower, Waiting In The Wings and won 2 Tony Awards for the musicals Applause and Woman Of The Year.
In 1944 Bacall married legendary screen actor Humphrey Bogart. The two starred in many films together including The Big Sleep, The Dark Passage, and To Have And To Have Not. “Bogie and Bacall” were together for over 12 years until Bogart died in 1957. They will always be remembered as one of the greatest Hollywood romances of all time.
“Listen, I never went into this business thinking of winning anything,” she said. “I went into it because I loved it and I wanted to be good at it. It was a form of expression for me. I love to hide behind characters. So [any recognition] I get is a perk. It’s just an extra. Just the fact that all that happened to me last year, it is–well–fabulous.”
A class act and a true beauty, Ms. Bacall will forever be ingrained in our hearts as one of the greatest.
