Kate Hudson and Matthew Bellamy have officially called it quits after being engaged for nearly four years.
Hudson’s representative made the announcement Monday (Dec. 8) stating that, “Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now. Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents.”
The couple had been engaged since April 2011, with Hudson giving birth to their son, Bingham Bellamy, three months later in July.
Hudson made it public that she did not mind having a long engagement, but clearly after putting in some serious thought to the relationship, it just wasn’t in the cards.
The last time we heard from Hudson was over the Thanksgiving holiday, which she spent with her parents, brothers, and model Cara Delevingne. Hudson and Delevigne famously had a Thanksgiving Day dance battle, but more importantly, speculation of a fallout with Bellamy came up when he wasn’t present in any of their Instagram clips.
The last time Hudson and Bellamy were seen together was last month at the Love In For Kids charity event that benefited the Goldie Hawn Foundation. More recently, however, Hudson has been attending multiple events without wearing her engagement ring.
Hudson is familiar with the marriage issues. Her mother, Goldie Hawn, has been together with Kurt Russell– who is not her biological father– for 30 years without ever getting married. According to ABC News, Hudson said, “I come from an unconventional family; they’re not married, my parents aren’t married.”
It’s unfortunate that the engagement fell through between the two, but at least the couple are putting their differences aside to raise their child.
