A trailer for Lifetime’s new movie The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story has been released. And it appears that Lifetime’s “behind-the scenes” production may be more melodramatic than the original series ever was.

The inspiration for Lifetime’s dramatization was Dustin Diamond’s (Screech) book Behind the Bell, which caused much controversy when it was published back in 2009.

Gawker reported that:

Diamond says the situation behind the scenes wasn’t as toxic as the media—and even his own book—has made it out to be. Last year, Diamond claimed he regretted the book and blamed some of its negativity on a ghostwriter, but implied he stood by the claim that his co-stars did drugs and slept together.

“Well, what do you think? There was a bunch of kids with hormones, 15, 16 years old,” he told HuffPo.

The “world premiere” for the made-for-tv movie is set for September 1st.
