Well, he’s done Broadway’s Tonys, TV’s Emmys, and now he’s about to do Hollywood’s Oscars. All Neil Patrick Harris has to do now is put out a song that rivals Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off, and maybe they’ll let him host the Grammys next year too.

Yesterday it was announced that the How I Met Your Mother comedian-of-all-trades has been chosen to host the 87th Academy Awards on February 22nd. The honored seat has been filled by the likes of huge names like Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen Degeneres, and Hugh Jackman–all of whom have been heralded as some of the most well-rounded performers of their time.

This year’s producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced:

“We are thrilled to have Neil host the Oscars. We have known him his entire adult life, and we have watched him explode as a great performer in feature films, television and stage. To work with him on the Oscars is the perfect storm, all of his resources and talent coming together on a global stage.”

It’s been quite a busy year for Neil both professionally and personally (have you seen the pics from his and David Burtka’s wedding?) His most recent flick, Gone Girl, has topped the box office for the last two weekends, and he also just finished a stint on Broadway performing in the title role of Hedwig–for which he won Best Actor in a Musical at this year’s Tonys. So, as a successful veteran of both screen and stage, it’s no wonder he’s the perfect pick to host almost any awards show.

“I grew up watching the Oscars, and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show,” says Harris. “To be asked to follow in the footsteps of everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.”
